The following case illustrates how I help clients.
A senior manager in an organization was feeling overwhelmed by requirements of the projects she was given at work and the needs of her ailing mother. Office politics was making life hard at work and to compound matters the adolescent children of her late sister were posing another challenge. She was bringing them up after her sister’s death. Her mother needed to be taken to hospital, often in emergency situations. She had no support from other family members. As a result her relationship with them was under strain.
She presented in clinic with vague bodily complaints, inability to sleep and poor appetite. We got to work first to exclude any serious underlying illness. We then created a plan to help her deal with her various challenges. She determined how she would really like to live her life, and identified some goals she wanted to achieve.
Three months later, she was a much happier person. She had improved her relationship with her family, she found a better place to work and was working towards improving her skills and qualifications. More importantly, she was looking after her own needs and health, which she had ignored while caring for others.
